Here are some of our finished research projects. We had 8 lessons with Mrs Booth and learnt how to login to our computers in record time, create a PowerPoint Presentation and save it to our files. We developed good questions and research skills by checking for reliable sources AND we tried very hard not to copy and paste information! Finally, we had fun and LOVED seeing our work on the Weebly!
What a brilliant collection of minibeast photos taken by Brodie, Max, Chelsea and Mason. Wow! The students have been sending in so many fantastic minibeast photos taken at home and in their environment! Fantastic effort 1/2DM :) The past few weeks have been so busy as we walk straight into the computer room after lunch to login, find our class folder and then click on our PPT presentations to continue to work on our project. We have identified our minibeasts using the fantastic Museum Victoria Bug Catcher site. Then we learnt how to use the Snipping Tool to cut out the image of our bug and save it to our file. Finally, we uploaded the image to our PowerPoint. Week 7 will focus on using our identified research sites to obtain answers to the question list we brainstormed in Week 4 after creating our concept maps. Students have also been uploading some fabulous photos to our Weebly or bringing them in to class on their USB's. Our image gallery is growing weekly! Today our class chose three of their most gentle and caring class members to take care of our new class minibeasts, mealworms. They will be changing overtime into darkling beetles but need to be taken care of correctly. Mealworms only need a little piece of apple or carrot each day to receive enough food and water. They love digging in oat bran and hiding under egg cartons which are also perfect for the adult beetle to lay her eggs on later.
We also had three more minibeast photos uploaded to our website photo gallery by students. Finally, we spent time exploring the Museum Victoria site Bug Catcher which was fantastic and will be an excellent and reliable source for our research project. We are selecting our minibeasts next week and have created our research questions together as a class. It was a VERY busy lesson! 1/2DM and Mrs Booth Today we looked at images students had taken of minibeasts in their environment. Can you pick which is NOT a minibeast? We discussed how a minibeast is an invertebrates which means it cannot have an internal skeleton. Then we all went into the computer lab and created a PowerPoint especially for our research project.
Last week we had spoken about websites and how to pick good reliable sites to use for our research project. The best sites end with .org .edu or .gov. We then had to decide if this website was real or fake: The Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus...what do you think? Class 1/2DM |
